Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.

Agur’s Prayer

wise man prayingGod, I am tired, so tired. How can I keep going? I have done some foolish things Lord  which has left me feeling like I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Spiritually, I feel like I am in kindergarten. I have more questions than answers. I wonder what heaven is like. I don’t know how You created this gigantic universe or how you sustain it. I want to know you better and I want to know Your son. There is one thing that I do know: Every word that you speak is true. You are a safe place to those who seek refuge in You. I fear You LORD, I would not dare change one word in the bible for fear You would make a liar out of me. God I ask You to do two things for me before I die. I want to be a man of integrity, to be honest as the day is long and give me only enough food for each day. If you give me too much, I might trust in riches rather than You. I do ask for my daily bread, otherwise I might steal and bring shame on Your name.

[Agur prayer is found in Proverbs 30. The above is a paraphrase based on the ERV.  Some think Agur is a pen name for Solomon. Agur in Hebrew means ‘compiler’ and Jakeh [listed as Agur’s father] means ‘without sin’. My problem with this view is the humility found in the prayer. I see no such humility in Solomon. Either way, the prayer expresses the desire of my heart.]

“My Hope” Prayer

my hope with BG cropped

Father, I believe that many Americans and others around the world share the sentiment of Job who in despair cried out, “Where is MY HOPE, can anyone find it?” Job felt that his hope had been uprooted like a tree and I think many are inclined to agree. Father, You are the God of my eternal salvation and MY HOPE is in YOU. I take shelter in the integrity of Jesus. I do believe that He is the ultimate promise keeper and MY HOPE is in His word. I join king David in his confession of hope… “Where is MY HOPE, MY HOPE is in God. When I am discouraged and my heart is sad, I put MY HOPE in God.” Father like David of old, I wait quietly before YOU for MY HOPE is in Jesus Christ Your Son and my Savior. Jesus and Jesus alone is MY HOPE. May all who fear You join me in praising Jesus for His infinite goodness. MY HOPE Father is in Your word, Your Spirit and Your Son. Since childhood, MY HOPE has been in You and MY HOPE shall always be in You. I continue to look to YOU for salvation. Jesus Christ is the only hope for America. Have mercy on us O God and send REVIVAL. May we honor You by exalting the name of Jesus and it is in that perfect name that we pray. Amen!

Prayer of Repentance [Jer. 11-12]

Father we know You are both omnipotent and righteous. You always do what is right whereas our inclination is to do what is wrong. You have been gracious to speak to us through the holy scriptures, the prophets, the Spirit and Your Son but we have not listened with respect and we have not obeyed Your instructions. Like ancient Israel, we have stubborn and evil hearts that are set on doing what we want. We are driven by our desires instead of Your decrees. Like Israel of old, we are a nation that worships idols. We have as many idols as we do States, possibly more. We worship the god of sports, entertainment, success, wealth, sex, self-will and I’m sure You can point out many more. Today, our Christian holy day, our sports arena’s will be packed with beer guzzling blasphemers who have not given one thought to Your Son and His sacrifice and then they will stand and sing “God Bless America”. Holy Father, we are all guilty, we stand and sing GOD BLESS AMERICA and our hands are dripping with the blood of the innocent unborn. Indeed do we crave Your blessings but we don’t want your instruction or intrusion into our twisted lives. Jesus is just a craved image on a stick, our blessed co-pilot, our spare tire…we’ll call on HIM when we need Him but at present we are enjoying our sin and rebellion.

Father You will never bless our sin and rebellion; You will never condone our evil ways and neither will You allow us to enjoy them. We are dinning on smoke and hot air and in the end we will be as empty as a drum. You have decreed that the way of the transgressor will be hard and so it shall be. We are traveling down a road that has a dead-end and it is the route we choose. We are headed for destruction and the closer we get, the faster we go. We could humble ourselves and beg for mercy but that would require repentance and not even those who attend worship today will repent, let alone the masses that will be entertaining themselves elsewhere. You have Your ways Father: You can humble us. You can allow disaster, drought, foreign nations, famine, disease and a multitude of other things to bring us to our knees. We do acknowledge that it is very foolish for us not to humble ourselves beneath Your mighty hand.

Father, You know our hearts and minds: we cannot hide anything from You. You see all our sin and shame whereas we only see a part. In Jesus name, grant us the spirit of repentance. We do wonder in our minds just how long American can survive without turning back to You in sorrow and repentance. Father please have mercy on America and send us REVIVAL and SPIRITUAL REFORMATION. In the perfect name of Jesus we pray. Amen!

Prayer For America [Hosea 13]

my hope with BG croppedFather, You made America a great nation in the eyes of the world but pride has lifted our hearts and heads and we have forgotten that it was You who made us great. We have turned from worshipping You to worshipping ourselves. We may not have the same kind of idols that ancient Israel worshipped but we are just as idolatrous. We Americans are sinning more and more. We have seen the sanctity of human life and of marriage dragged through the mud of secular humanism. We worship the god of pleasure and kiss the god of promiscuous sex and then offer our unborn as a sacrifice for our sins. We are no better than the Israelites who kissed the calf [Molech] and then threw their baby in the fire. God have mercy on us. There is no future for such a depraved society. We are sick with sin. We are clinging to our own destruction. We will disappear like the morning fog. We will be blown away like chaff in the wind. I fear that we have become smoke in Your eyes: we have no character, no substance and we have forgotten or creator. We are like a clay pot that has no mind to acknowledge the potter.

Father, You guided our forefather’s to this great land. You watched over them, protected and blessed them with liberty and justice. They were men of faith who prayed from their knees daily and offered thanks for Your provision. They acknowledged Your sovereignty and bowed to Your omnipotence. Now we are a people who have forgotten their history and their Maker. Father forgive us, we are a culture of educated fools who have no idea what kind of harvest we are going to reap. We will never stand against Your wrath nor the consequences of our sin. Our only hope is Jesus but the majority of Americans disrespect Your Son and refuse to make Him LORD of their lives.

Father, we have drifted before but You in mercy sent us GREAT AWAKENINGS. They came every century for a while but now it has been a century and a half and we keep sinking deeper and deeper into our depravity. We asked for the king we have and You gave him to us. He is not what we need but most likely what we deserve. We have made government our god and now we have millions who worship its leader. We are blind fools stumbling in the dark. Obama cannot save us; he may will be Your instrument for our destruction. Had we acknowledged YOU as our Sovereign, none of this would be happening. We are fools to believe that we can sow immorality and reap goodness. We have believed Satan’s lie that we can sin without paying the consequences. We are a nation of selfish brats. We want everything our way; we don’t want to work and we hate sacrifice. God have mercy on America.
Father, our only hope of salvation is in Your Son Jesus Christ. We who believe praise YOU that in Christ we have victory over sin, death and the grave. We give you thanks and praise that America is our camp ground, not our home. Our home is in heaven where everyone loves and worships Jesus. Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

[This prayer comes from Hosea chapter 13…read it and you will see for yourself that the above is no stretch. All I can say is that God’s Word is awesome, what an incredible book]
