Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.

A Prayer For Those Feeling Helpless

David Flees Jerusalem

David Flees Jerusalem

LORD, I am poor and helpless; I am sad and broken-hearted. I feel like my life is over; fading quickly like the evening shadows. I feel unimportant, like a bug that someone brushes away. My knees are weak from fasting and I have lost weight from worrying. My enemies insult me; they make fun of me in public. They look at me with contempt and then shake their heads. LORD God help me! Show me your faithful love and save me! Then the unbelievers who mock me will know that it was by Your power that I was delivered. LORD, your blessing will overshadow the curses of the enemy. I am under constant attack but You are my defense and my shield. Enable me to rejoice in my great salvation and give me a humble spirit of gratitude. I am not ashamed to confess your goodness and grace. You stand by the helpless and You save us from death and destruction.

{Psalm 109 is an imprecatory Psalm but some believe that David is telling us how his enemies were praying curses on him: at the end of the Psalm, you will find this prayer which is not imprecatory. [pronouncing a curse]

My Hope Prayer

PrayerPoster-LargeFather, I am ready in heart and soul to sing songs of praise but a good revival would help. A spiritual wake up to the soul would be refreshing. I think I have the will and the courage to do a world concert but I lack the voice and the opportunity so I will sing to You. It’s Your voice that the world needs to hear and Your faithfulness that they need to recognize. LORD, You are as faithful as the day is long and as the sky is high. My prayer is that you will manifest Your presence and power is some unique way so that this evil world system will be forced to acknowledge that You are God the Eternal One. Father our hope and our victory is in JESUS. He will reward as He sees fit on that grand and glorious day of His return. We will be whatever He decrees and we will do whatever He commands. Right now we have a job to do, a battle to be fought and we need Your help. LORD of the harvest, call more laborers into My Hope, we could use more help but our trust is not in human help. Mankind cannot save us. Only You can convict of sin. Only You can cleanse and forgive sin. Only You can transform lives and give peace, joy and victory. LORD, You are my strength, my song, my salvation and My Hope.

Romans Seven Prayer

jesus_on_crossFather, I know that the law is good and perfect and I understand that You gave the law to help us; it is our friend not our foe. Those who respect Your law get more out of life here and hereafter. The laws perfection reveals my imperfection and it also stimulates my rebellious nature. What the law forbids seem to make my lust more powerful. It does reveal to me the power of the flesh and the depth of my depravity. It teaches me that something bad, such as sin, will use something good, such as the law, to trip me up. We are tempted to violate the law and live as we please but this puts us in open rebellion which makes me uncomfortable but if I strive to obey the law a part from your grace, I become proud and self-righteous which is as bad as open rebellion. Either way we go, sin uses the law to its own advantage. Sin is deceitful and I don’t like deceit so why do I flirt with sin? I know that sin is destructive and I do not want to sin but invariable I do. Sometimes I do the very thing I do not want to do. I have this civil war ragging inside me; a part of me wants to please YOU and a part wants to please myself. One part wants to do good, the other bad. I know that the law is holy and good and I know that sin is anti-Christ and anti-happiness but I keep making some of the same dumb mistakes over and over. Jesus who loves me is infinitely good and worthy of all praise. He is also worthy and deserving of my complete devotion yet I continue to let Him down time and time again. I hate sin. I loathe displeasing You but I do understand that the tentacles of sin are rooted deep in my flesh and I will not be fully redeemed until I get out of this wretched body. One way or the other, death will set me free.

Psalm 63, Knox

Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel

Father, honest men put their trust in Thee. Wise men boast only in Christ and His redemptive work and put no confidence in the flesh. People conspire against You and Your people. They say and do things with malicious intent to hurt the cause of Christ. They stay up late at night hatching their diabolical plans. They think that they are working in secret. They are unaware that you watch everything they do and monitor every thought they think. It does not matter how deep their thoughts of treason go, you see them like a picture on a screen. These people are filled with scorn and contempt; they are driven by anger but they do not understand what is motivating them. In their effort to accomplish their will, they do like the ancient Pharaoh and fight against Your will. Like Pharaoh of old, their foolish pride injures not only themselves but all who surround them. They offer you some of their time and money as though it was a sacrifice and it never dawns on them that what you require is not a part of their life, but their death. They don’t understand that You do not negotiate, You terminate. By the power of grace Divine, set my heart on Your will and let it be mine. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Prayer of Praise

A JesusFather, You are the hearer of our prayers, the lifter of our burdens, the forgiver of our sins, the maker of the mountains, the ruler of all nations, the hope of all mankind, the calmer of the seas, the giver of the rain and the fountain of real joy, and we praise Thee. In Jesus name, we praise Thee.

Prayer of Praise and Worship [Psalm 95, Knox]

min-jesus-face-clothedFather, I rejoice in Your honor, I revel in your majesty, I glory in your almighty power. You are most definitely my strength and my deliverer. My attempts to praise You are always feeble and fall far short of my own expectations so I have trouble believing that my praise is pleasing to You. I admire the mountains and You created them with your hands: You were the potter and they were the clay. You sculpted the seas out with your hand; You are an Awesome God. You power exceeds our imagination by an infinite degree. If I had my wits about me, and saw things as the angels see them, I would bow down now and worship YOU, most likely in silence. I do bow my head and bend my stiff neck, I do prostrate myself before YOU; You are the Creator and I am the creature; You are infinite and I am finite; You are all secure and I am insecure. I am the sheep and You are my Shepherd, lead me in the paths of righteousness for the glory of Your Son and deliver me from evil for the good of my soul. Grant me the wisdom to listen closely to Your voice and help not to make the mistake of my ancient ancestors who tempted You and tried You again and again by their stubbornness and unbelief. My life goal is to honor YOU, to learn obedience and to bear my cross for Jesus sake. In Jesus name I pray, amen!

Francois Fenelon’s Instructions On Intimate Prayer

Francois Felelon

Francois Felelon

Tell God all that is on your heart, as one unloads one’s heart, its pleasures and its pains, to a dear friend. Tell Him your troubles, that He may comfort you; tell Him your joys, that He may sober them; tell Him your longings, that He may purify them; tell Him your dislikes, that He may help you conquer them; talk to Him of your temptations, that He may shield you from them; show Him the wounds of your heart, that He may heal them; lay bare your indifference to good, your depraved tastes for evil, you instability. Tell Him how self-love make you unjust to others, how vanity tempts you to be insincere, how pride disguises you to yourself and others. If you thus pour out all your weaknesses, needs, troubles, there will be no lack of what to say. You will never exhaust the subject. It is continually being renewed. People who have no secrets from each other never want for subject of conversation. They do not weigh their words, for there is nothing to be held back; neither do they seek for something to say. They talk out of the abundance of their heart, without consideration they say just what they think. Blessed are they who attain to such familiar, unreserved intercourse with God.
