Father, You are the Eternal One who rules in righteousness. Nations rise and fall before you like grass that flourishes in spring and withers in winter. Kingdoms come and kingdoms go like the seasons of the year but You Father are forever the same. We kneel in Your presence as Your humble subjects created to serve for your good pleasure. Our will and wants are not important: we live in Your kingdom, not ours. You command us but we do not command You. Father there are many things that we cannot fathom with our finite minds. We do not understand why good men suffer and evil men prosper. We do not understand why we feel lonely and forgotten when we are trying to do what is right. The Christ haters in this world have no regard for You or Your Son and yet they seem to fare better than we. They are haughty, proud, and boastful; they think nothing of taking advantage of the weak and helpless. They have the power and resources to crush all who oppose them. They mock You and make fun of us for trusting You. LORD we know that a day of judgment is coming, a day of reckoning when things will be made right by Christ Himself. It is not our place to judge our enemies but we are commanded by Christ to pray for them. Our prayer is that all Christ-haters would repent of their sin and turn to Christ for forgiveness. May our enemies forsake their pride and acknowledge Jesus as their Savior and LORD.
[Prayer is based on Psalm 10 and was written on February 28, 1997]
I call upon You LORD God for help. I bring my petitions to you morning, noon and night. Lord, I depend upon You for protection. I pray that You will lead me in and out of battle safely. O God the Eternal One, hear my prayer and give me victory over my enemies. You who never change, change them–take away their hate and replace it with love. I had much rather they love me than hate me. Lord, I forgive those who have betrayed my trust: Those whom I thought were my friends but were not; those who had an opportunity to speak well of me but choose rather to sit with the scornful. Lord you know that all this is more than I can handle so I commit it all to You. You will defend me if I need defending. You will judge us all for our honestly or dishonestly. I put my trust and confidence in You and I leave my enemies with You also.
[Based on Psalm 17]
Father, I do not pretend to be innocent. I have sinned and fallen far short of the glorious perfection I see in Christ. Father, whether You put me to the test or not, You know my heart and you are aware of the fact that I have not been obedient to Christ command, to love my enemies and to pray for them. I have not done cruel things to them but I have certainly done unloving things by ceasing to pray for them and I seek Your forgiveness in this matter. I choose to offer up a prayer in behalf of those who say all manner of evil against me. I ask you Father to bless my enemies, those that I am aware of and those that I know nothing about. Bless them with light. Help them to see your love and guide them in the way of truth. Help them to understand that we all need Your divine protection and that we all must experience Your saving grace. I do understand Father that I am surrounded by the enemy and I know that I am saved only by Your strong protection: otherwise I would have been consumed. They constitute no real or viable threat to me but they do threaten themselves because their rebellion is against YOU! Lead them to repentance and help me to love them as Christ loved them. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
